Marshall for Word
Marshall for Word is a task pane inside Microsoft Word. It signs in with your ordinary Marshall account and brings the workspace to where drafting actually happens: browse a matter's answers and insert them into the document with formatting and citations intact, and check the authorities cited in a passage you are drafting against the matter's authority record.
What it does
- Insert answers. Pick a matter and a conversation, and insert an answer — or its List of Authorities — at the cursor, rendered as proper Word content rather than pasted text.
- Check authorities. Select a passage of your draft and the pane reads the neutral citations out of it, reporting whether each is already part of the matter's authority record and with what verification status. An unmatched citation is reported as not recorded — never as wrong — and every authority carries the same practitioner-review obligation it has in the workspace.
Installing the add-in
Word installs the pane from a small manifest file, and the steps differ between Word for Mac, Word for Windows, and Word on the web. The full walkthrough, with the manifest download, is kept with the add-in itself:
Installing Marshall for Word — step-by-step guide
If several members of chambers use Marshall, a Microsoft 365 administrator can deploy the add-in to everyone at once from the same manifest; that too is covered in the guide above.
