Marshall

Installing Marshall for Word

Word installs the panel from a small manifest file. First, download the Marshall manifest, then follow the steps for your version of Word. The steps differ by platform because Microsoft has moved the option between releases.

Word for Mac

Try the ribbon first:

  1. Open Home > Add-ins > More Add-ins (on older builds: Insert > Add-ins or Insert > My Add-ins).
  2. In the dialog, choose My Add-ins > Upload My Add-in and select the downloaded manifest.

If your Word has no Upload My Add-in option (recent Mac builds removed it), install by file instead:

  1. In Finder, press Cmd+Shift+G and go to ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Word/Data/Documents/wef (create the wef folder if it does not exist).
  2. Copy the downloaded manifest into that folder.
  3. Quit and reopen Word, then choose Home > Add-ins > My Add-ins — Marshall appears under Developer Add-ins.

Word for Windows

  1. Save the manifest into a folder, share that folder (right-click > Properties > Sharing) and note its network path.
  2. In Word: File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Trusted Add-in Catalogs, add the folder's network path, tick Show in Menu, and restart Word.
  3. Choose Home > Add-ins > My Add-ins > Shared Folder and select Marshall.

Word on the web

  1. Open a document at office.com.
  2. Choose Home > Add-ins > More Add-ins > My Add-ins > Upload My Add-in and upload the manifest.

For chambers

If several members of chambers use Marshall, a Microsoft 365 administrator can deploy the add-in to everyone at once — Microsoft 365 admin center > Settings > Integrated apps > Upload custom apps — using the same manifest. Marshall then appears in each member's Word without any per-machine steps.

Installed before 28 August 2026? The Marshall service moved to chat.marshall.com.hk that day, and older installs stop loading. Remove the old add-in (or the old manifest from the wef folder) and install again with the manifest above.
