Marshall Help

Exports and work product

Anything Marshall produces can leave the workspace as a document. The Export & tools menu under each answer holds every export that answer supports.

Exporting an answer

Export to Word and Export to PDF turn the answer into a formatted document — headings, numbered paragraphs, and citations carried through, not a transcript of the chat. An answer containing a chronology also offers Export to Excel and a chronology-as-a-document export in Word or PDF, laid out in the house three-column form.

The List of Authorities

An answer that relies on authorities can export its List of Authorities as a Word or PDF document: one continuously numbered list in the order the authorities are relied on, cases, texts, and rules interleaved rather than grouped by type, each entry with its full citation. The same list is available in the answer's side panel, where you can maintain it — and copy it — before exporting.

What the review line means

Every exported document carries a notice:

Draft generated by Marshall. Practitioner review, source verification, and adaptation to the relevant facts and jurisdiction are required before use.

The page footer likewise reads Practitioner review required. This states what the document is: a draft prepared by the platform, which becomes work product only after a practitioner has verified its authorities and its statements of the law and adapted it to the matter at hand. The notice is part of the document by design; work that has been reviewed and settled is yours to restyle, but the export itself always says what it is.

Creating a document to edit

Create document on the same menu turns an answer into an editable document inside Marshall, for reworking before any export. If you draft in Microsoft Word itself, Marshall for Word inserts answers directly at the cursor.
